Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted an Iranian delegation in St. Petersburg on Monday as Tehran works to cement its Russia-Iran strategic partnership.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi hailed the “strategic relationship” during the meeting. Araghchi later shared photos on X, stating that recent events have evidenced the depth and strength of the partnership.
“As our relationship continues to grow, we are grateful for solidarity and welcome Russia’s support for diplomacy,” Araghchi wrote.
President Putin told Araghchi that the Iranian people were “courageously fighting” for their sovereignty in the face of pressure from the United States and Israel.
Maritime Activity in the Strait
In a separate development, the Russian-flagged vessel Nord managed to clear the strait. The passage occurred despite the fact that private vessels have largely avoided the waterway since the outbreak of hostilities.
These diplomatic and maritime movements come as long-term peace negotiations between the two sides remain stalled.
