Samsung Electronics has officially confirmed that its next generation of foldable smartphones will feature new “Flex Titanium” display technology. The company is set to showcase these devices at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled for July 22 in London. The announcement arrives as the technology industry anticipates the reveal of the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and a new, wider foldable model. Samsung stated that this latest display architecture is the result of seven generations of foldable engineering, intended to provide users with a more refined viewing experience, enhanced device durability, and reduced visibility of the display crease.

Engineering Flex Titanium Technology

Samsung’s Flex Titanium technology relies on the integration of two specific titanium-based components designed to balance slimness, flexibility, and mechanical strength. According to the company, the system employs a titanium-alloy film positioned beneath the OLED panel. This film is designed to provide 20 times greater mechanical stiffness than traditional polymer films, while being thin enough to measure less than 30% of the thickness of a human hair. Beneath this film, Samsung has incorporated a titanium plate that supports the display module. By utilizing advanced hole-processing technology to create micro-patterned holes in the folding section, the company claims it has eliminated air gaps between the module and its adhesive. This design allows for more stable support when the device is unfolded while maintaining the necessary flexibility to endure repeated folding.

Focus on User Experience and Efficiency

The development of this technology follows years of consumer feedback regarding the foldable category. Samsung noted that users consistently express a desire for larger, more immersive screens with less visible creases, without sacrificing the portability or durability of the hardware. Beyond structural improvements, the new display architecture incorporates high-resolution technology and new organic materials. Samsung reports that these updates will produce “ultra-vivid” display resolution while simultaneously reducing power consumption, providing a boost in overall efficiency. “Samsung’s strength in the foldable category comes from connecting user needs with our technologies that deliver tangible benefits in everyday life,” said Sunghoon Moon, EVP and Senior Executive, Mobile R&D Office – H/W, Samsung Electronics.

Anticipated Lineup at Galaxy Unpacked

While Samsung has focused its recent announcement on the display technology, the July 22 event is expected to feature a broader hardware rollout. Reports indicate that the event will include the debut of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Z Flip 8. Leaked materials suggest that the new, wider foldable device will feature a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display, both supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is expected to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset with 12GB of RAM. Other rumored specifications for the wider model include a 4,800mAh battery and a dual-camera system on the rear. In addition to the smartphones, the event is expected to feature the unveiling of the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Official-looking renders have surfaced showing these devices in various color finishes, including online-exclusive options like “Pistachio” for the Z Fold 8 and “Mint” for the Z Flip 8. Further technical details and official specifications for the entire lineup are expected to be unveiled during the Galaxy Unpacked event in London.
