Samsung Unveils AI Smart Glasses With Gemini Integration and 9-Hour Battery

Samsung detailed its upcoming AI smart glasses on July 22, 2026, at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London. Developed with Google and Qualcomm, the intelligent eyewear features a 9-hour battery life and Gemini AI integration. The devices, designed by Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, are scheduled for release this fall.

Samsung is stepping into a market currently dominated by Meta, attempting to turn its massive smartphone install base into a wearable audience. The company’s strategy isn’t to replace the phone, but to extend the mobile experience through a device Samsung describes as being made by a smartphone specialist.

Android XR Hardware and Battery Specifications

The glasses are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip, the same silicon found in Meta’s latest offerings. While the first generation will not feature a built-in display in the lenses, Samsung is emphasizing endurance and durability to differentiate its hardware.

Battery life is a central pillar of the pitch. Samsung claims the glasses can last through nine hours of heavy use on a single charge. To support this, the device comes with a portable charging case that can recharge the glasses 9to5Google.

Durability testing has also been elevated to smartphone standards. Jaein Choi, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile experience division, noted that the company created 20 new testing methods to ensure the frames can withstand drop tests, harsh outdoor conditions, and exposure to chemicals like cosmetics and sunscreen.

AI Integration and Ecosystem Connectivity

The intelligent eyewear relies heavily on Google’s Android XR platform. Users can interact via Google Gemini or Samsung’s Bixby to perform tasks such as live translation, navigation guidance, and summarizing long smartphone messages via built-in speakers.

The hardware includes a built-in camera capable of capturing video and reading content from whiteboards or presentations to organize information into notes.

Samsung is also leveraging its other wearables for control. Choi mentioned the company is testing gesture controls that would allow users to trigger features using a Samsung smartwatch or the Galaxy Ring, which launched in 2024.

Privacy Measures and Data Policies

With Meta facing social-media backlash over nonconsensual recording, Samsung is positioning its glasses as a privacy-first alternative. The device includes a recording LED to signal when the camera is active; if this light is covered or obscured, the glasses will prevent filming.

Beyond hardware signals, Samsung has pledged not to use customer audio, screen-sharing, or video data from the glasses to train its artificial intelligence models.

Market Positioning and the Meta Challenge

Samsung enters a market where Meta held a 69.2% share in the first quarter of 2026, according to IDC. While Samsung has not disclosed a specific price, Choi described the glasses as a premium product that will be sold through partner sales channels.

Future Iterations and Luxury Partnerships

The upcoming fall launch represents only the beginning of Samsung’s roadmap. Glasses with built-in displays are expected to follow once quality expectations are met.

The Android XR ecosystem is also expanding beyond Samsung. Luca de Meo, CEO of Kering, indicated that smart glasses are in development across the industry, further diversifying the hardware available on the Android XR platform.
