Shudder has announced that the ninth installment of the horror anthology franchise, V/H/S/MIXTAPE, will debut on the streaming platform on October 9. The new film explores the terrifying power of music and sound with segments directed by RZA, Ernest Dickerson, David Moreau, and Renee Zhan.

cranks the signature found-footage horror up to eleven with an electrifying new anthology where music and sound become the source of terror.
The project follows the massive success of last year’s franchise entry. V/H/S/Halloween
proved to be a major hit for Shudder and AMC+, claiming the title of the most-watched exclusive film premiere of 2025 across the platforms while also driving Shudder’s biggest acquisition weekend of the year, based on the same reporting.
A Star-Studded Director Lineup and Practical Monsters
The ninth chapter unites a diverse roster of filmmakers around a central theme exploring how audio can haunt, possess, and destroy. The segment roster features Ernest Dickerson, known for Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight
; RZA, who directed The Man with the Iron Fists
; David Moreau, director of Mads
; and Renee Zhan, director of O Black Hole!
Renee Zhan’s contribution stands out with original creature creations supplied by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Meanwhile, musician and director Flying Lotus, who directed Ash
, contributes music video interludes, and debut filmmaker Tobias Forge also contributes a music video. Heavy metal icons GWAR make a featured appearance in the anthology as well.
Blending Cosmic Horror and Practical Effects
According to press release details cited by Msn, the feature blends cosmic horror, psychological suspense, outrageous splatter, and groundbreaking practical effects into a single nightmare-inducing compilation. The franchise itself first launched back in 2012 with the original V/H/S
, which included segments from directors such as Ti West, Radio Silence, and Joe Swanberg.
Production duties for the upcoming October release are handled by Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber, and Brad Miska. Ben Ross and Rami Yassin serve as executive producers on the project.
