As a precautionary measure, Slovenia decided to suspend the use of the Janssen anti-Covid-19 vaccine, which is produced by the American pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson, following the death of a 20-year-old young woman, days after receiving this vaccine.
Slovenian Health Minister Janez Poklukar told reporters in the capital, Ljubljana, “We have decided to pause until all the details related to this case become clear.”
In turn, Bojana Biovic, head of the group of experts advising the government on combating the Covid-19 pandemic, said, “There may be an unwanted link between death and vaccination.”
Slovenian media reported that a 20-year-old woman was taken to hospital on Monday in serious condition, a few days after receiving the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The young woman died on Tuesday-Wednesday night as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage and blood clots.
Slovenia is a small European country with a population of two million people, 47% of whom are now immune to Covid-19 (compared to 64% in the European Union on average).
