Thousands of people in the North Okanagan are without power Sunday morning due to heavy winds. As of 3:10 p.m., power has been restored in the Armstrong and Westside Road areas, but outages continue to affect hundreds of customers in other parts of the region.
North Okanagan Power Outages
According to BC Hydro, 3,755 homes were initially without power across a large area from the northern end of Westside Road up to Armstrong. Power was out in that region since 8:15 a.m., but has since been restored. The initial estimated restoration time was 12:30 p.m.
- Approximately 839 BC Hydro customers in the Cherryville area remain without electricity.
- An outage in the Creighton Valley area is affecting 37 customers.
- Trees down across wires are the primary cause of the outages.
In the Cherryville area, 839 BC Hydro customers are without electricity due to trees falling across wires. Power has been out in that area since just before 9 a.m.
Smaller outages are also impacting areas including Okanagan Centre and Salmon Arm.
Strong winds are expected to continue across much of B.C.’s Southern Interior Sunday.
