High school students in Belleville, Ontario, are planning a protest against changes to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Students from several schools will rally in Market Square on Tuesday, though a specific time has not yet been announced.

OSAP Changes Spark Student Protest

The provincial government, led by Doug Ford, has altered the OSAP program to provide 75 per cent of financial aid as loans and 25 per cent as grants. Currently, the program distributes 85 per cent of aid as grants and 15 per cent as loans.

Students express concern that these changes will make post-secondary education unaffordable for many. Anna Baldwin Powell, a student at Nicholson Catholic College, is organizing the protest and has created an Instagram page, Nicholson_osapwalkout, to share information.
