The head of the Parliamentary Women, Family and Children Committee, Donia Al-Shammari, confirmed today, Saturday, that women’s representation in the current government and parliament is unprecedented.
Al-Shammari told the (INA), “The current government has three ministries headed by women, including a sovereign one, which means that women have the ability to make decisions, in addition to the current session of the House of Representatives in which women are present in a large proportion, reaching a third of the number of members.” The legislative authority,” warning that “this representation in terms of numbers is unprecedented and evidence of the government’s and voters’ awareness of the importance of women’s role in decision-making.”
She added, “The government’s strategy to support women for the years 2023-2024 included encouraging steps, and we expect them to be reinforced with constructive plans to implement several axes in a way that enhances the role of women in society and decision-making.”
She continued, “In the past, plans were drawn up to support women, families, and children, but they did not find their way to implementation due to problems, including the lack of financial support.”
