The Church of the Holy Sepulchre opened its gates for the Service of the Holy Passion on Great and Holy Thursday, 27 March / 9 April 2026, following an agreed truce of peace.
The service included the reading of the Twelve Gospels, alongside Biblical Readings and hymns. The opening of the church gates was made possible by the established ceasefire.
Proceedings of the Service of the Holy Passion
His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem served as the presiding celebrant and read the first Gospel. Remaining Gospels were read by Hierarchs and Archimandrite officials of the Patriarchate according to their rank.
Participation from the faithful increased for the service, as worshippers gathered following the cessation of a forty-day war.
