Diplomatic Shifts in Iran Pakistan Peace Talks

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who previously departed the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, is currently in Oman to meet with officials and discuss regional developments. He is expected to return to Pakistan before continuing his travel to Russia.

The diplomatic movement follows a decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to instruct top U.S. envoys not to travel to Pakistan to negotiate with Iran. Trump stated that Iranian officials “can call us anytime they want,” placing the responsibility for initiating talks on Tehran.

In response to the shifting diplomatic landscape, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a phone call with the Iranian president. Sharif described the conversation as “warm and constructive” and expressed appreciation for Iran’s continued engagement.

Sharif further emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to serving as an “honest and sincere facilitator” to advance durable peace and stability in the region.

Esmaeil Baqaei, a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, noted that Tehran continues to prioritize relations with Persian Gulf states and remains committed to constructive cooperation and mutual trust.

Military Escalation in Lebanon

Amidst these diplomatic efforts, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the IDF to launch “vigorous” strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. The directive follows a series of Hezbollah rocket and drone attacks targeting northern Israel and Israeli ground troops in southern Lebanon on Saturday.

The IDF reported that there were no injuries resulting from those specific attacks. However, Israel launched multiple air strikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday while a fragile temporary ceasefire was in effect.

Israeli officials stated that those strikes killed at least six people identified as Hezbollah militants.
