Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel Saturday, injuring over 100 people in the most destructive attack since the start of the ongoing conflict, prompting vows of retaliation from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and subsequent strikes on Tehran.
Iranian Missile Strikes Hit Southern Israel
The strikes, which bypassed Israelâs missile defense systems, caused significant damage to residential buildings and created craters in the ground. First responders reported 84 injuries in Arad, including 10 serious cases.
Earlier, 33 people were wounded in Dimona, where footage showed a large hole next to rubble and twisted metal. Dimona is home to a facility widely believed to be the site of the Middle East’s only nuclear arsenal, though Israel has not confirmed this.
The Israeli army confirmed a âdirect missile hit on a buildingâ in Dimona, with casualties reported across multiple locations, including a 10-year-old boy with serious shrapnel wounds.
Emergency workers are continuing to search through the debris of damaged buildings in Arad.
Netanyahu stated Israel would continue to strike Iran following what he described as a âvery difficult evening.â Hours later, the Israeli military announced it had launched strikes on Tehran.
Retaliation and Nuclear Concerns
Iran claimed the targeting of Dimona was in response to Israeli strikes on its Natanz nuclear facility. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also stated its forces targeted other southern Israeli towns, as well as military sites in Kuwait and the UAE.
Following the attack on Natanz, UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi reiterated his call for âmilitary restraint to avoid any risk of a nuclear accident.â
The Natanz facility, which houses underground centrifuges used for uranium enrichment, sustained damage in June 2025.
Israel denied responsibility for the Natanz strike but confirmed it had struck a facility at a Tehran university, alleging it was being used to develop nuclear weapon components for Iranâs ballistic missile program.
