Xbox obtains exclusive cloud streaming rights for GTA 6

Xbox has secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI at launch, enabling PC and mobile players to stream the highly anticipated title through Xbox Cloud Gaming on November 19, according to company disclosures and industry reporting.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma Reveals Streaming Agreement at Employee All-Hands

Microsoft has finalized an exclusive arrangement that positions Xbox Cloud Gaming as the sole cloud platform permitted to stream Grand Theft Auto VI when the game launches on November 19. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma disclosed the development to employees during an internal all-hands meeting, noting that Microsoft is preparing an offering around the title that no other platform holder is doing as reported by The Verge.

Because developer Rockstar Games has not yet announced a PC port for the game, the streaming agreement opens a direct pathway for computer and mobile users to experience the title without owning a current-generation console. The arrangement allows Microsoft to market its cloud service directly to players who would otherwise need to purchase an Xbox Series X or S, or a PlayStation 5, to run the software. Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans confirmed the partnership, though the duration of the exclusivity window remains unconfirmed.

Cloud Infrastructure Changes and New Pay-As-You-Go Options

The streaming exclusivity arrives alongside sweeping structural adjustments to Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure. Beginning in November, the company is capping monthly cloud streaming hours for Game Pass subscribers at 15 hours for Ultimate members, 10 hours for Premium subscribers, and 5 hours for Game Pass Essential users.

This model allows users to purchase standalone hourly bundles of streaming access, perfectly timed for users who primarily play from a phone or do not own a console. The company is also testing a free, ad-supported tier of its cloud service with Xbox Insiders.
