The action followed high drama outside the residence as the party’s legal team negotiated with police officers before the all-clear was given shortly after 11 AM to take the former deputy chief minister and son of party boss MK Stalin into custody.

The Cauvery Dispute Speech and Subsequent Criminal Charges

The controversy stems from a political gathering organized by the DMK in Thanjavur to protest the state government’s handling of the Cauvery water-sharing dispute and the proposed Mekedatu dam project. During his address, Udhayanidhi Stalin faulted the administration for failing to secure water supplies from Karnataka.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore termed the language unacceptable and called for an unconditional apology, while Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan argued that political criticism ought to maintain a certain purity of thought and criticized the use of vulgar double meanings.

TKS Elangovan, DMK Spokesperson, stated that he had listened to the entire speech and that nothing was said as people were claiming, noting that the leader had only listed out the Chief Minister’s failures, that nothing in the speech was insulting, that he did not even mention the name of the actor, and that he was only attacking the government while adding that the problem with the government was its lack of care for the people of Tamil Nadu and its manipulation by someone to attack the DMK.
