US Ceasefire Plan Rejected: Iran Military Dismisses Talks

Iran has received a 15-point proposal from the U.S. aimed at reaching a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, according to Pakistani officials. The proposal addresses a range of issues including sanctions relief, Iran’s nuclear program, and access to the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Details of the U.S. Proposal

Pakistani officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. proposal broadly covers sanctions relief, cooperation on civilian nuclear matters, a rollback of Iran’s nuclear program, monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency, limits on Iran’s missile program, and ensuring access for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

An Egyptian official involved in mediation efforts described the 15-point plan as “a comprehensive deal” intended to establish a truce. The proposal also includes restrictions on Iran’s missile program and its support for armed groups, as well as guaranteeing traffic flow through the Strait of Hormuz.

However, the Egyptian official added that the proposal is currently being considered as a basis for further negotiations. Iranian officials are reportedly “very skeptical” of the Trump administration, according to the same source.

Negotiation Prospects and Regional Concerns

The 15-point plan is being compared to a 20-point plan for a Gaza ceasefire, suggesting that reaching an agreement will require “immense efforts” if both sides agree to negotiate. Mediators are attempting to arrange in-person negotiations between Iranian and American officials, potentially as early as Friday in Pakistan.

Such a meeting would require immediate travel from the U.S. side. Concerns remain regarding the safety of Iranian officials, given recent Israeli airstrikes that have targeted individuals up to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The developments come as the U.S. has begun deploying paratroopers to the Middle East to reinforce a contingent of Marines already en route. Iran’s military responded to the diplomatic efforts with further attacks on Israel and in the Persian Gulf region, including an incident that caused a fire at Kuwait International Airport.

The U.S. submitted the 15-point plan through Pakistani intermediaries, who have offered to host renewed negotiations. Iran’s attacks on regional energy infrastructure and its influence over the Strait of Hormuz – through which a fifth of the world’s oil is shipped – have contributed to rising oil prices and concerns about a global energy crisis.
