US Jets Near Iran: Nuclear Talks Tension Rises

The United States military has deployed over 50 fighter jets to the Middle East in the last 24 hours, increasing its air and naval presence near Iran, according to a U.S. official.

Military Buildup Amid Iran Negotiations

The deployed aircraft include F-16, F-22, and F-35 fighter jets, as tracked by independent flight observers. This movement of military assets comes as indirect negotiations with Iranian officials continue, focusing on Iran’s nuclear program.

A U.S. official stated that progress was made during talks held in Geneva on Tuesday, but emphasized that many details remain under discussion. Iran reportedly indicated it would provide detailed proposals within the next two weeks to address outstanding issues.

“The Iranians said they would come back in the next two weeks with detailed proposals to address some of the open gaps in our positions,” the official said. “There were good meetings, but the gaps are still wide. There’s still a lot of work to be done to reach an agreement.”

The deployment follows reports last week that the U.S. would send its largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the Middle East in anticipation of potential conflict with Iranian forces. The USS Gerald R. Ford and its accompanying ships were redirected from deployment in the Caribbean on Thursday.

The USS Abraham Lincoln, along with other air and naval assets, has been stationed in the area since January.
