The United States has entered its eleventh consecutive night of airstrikes against Iranian military targets, following President Donald Trump’s warning that the conflict has not ended and his threat to destroy Iranian infrastructure if Tehran continues to attack maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

Data from maritime analysis firm Kpler indicates that only three cargo ships crossed the strait on Tuesday, down from four on Monday. Observers noted an absence of large-scale oil tankers and liquefied natural gas (GNL) carriers in the area.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed the geopolitical stakes during a meeting with Southeast Asian ministers in Manila, Philippines. He argued that Iranian control over the waterway would create a dangerous precedent for international maritime law. Despite the ongoing military escalation, Rubio maintained that the official U.S. stance remains focused on pursuing diplomacy, though he acknowledged that Tehran has not been taking negotiations seriously.
Human Cost and Political Pressure
The human toll of the conflict continues to rise. The U.S. Department of War reported that a third soldier is now presumed dead following the July 17 attack on the Muwaffaq Salti air base in Jordan. This brings the total number of U.S. military fatalities since the conflict began on February 28 to 18.
President Trump faces mounting domestic political pressure as the war’s economic impact becomes a central issue ahead of the November elections. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth recently defended a multi-billion dollar funding request before Congress, noting that the total cost of the conflict has already surpassed billions of dollars. Trump claimed that the American public is primarily concerned with the effect that it has on their pockets with the rising cost of fuels.

Tensions remain high regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Following Israeli intelligence assessments that Tehran has relocated uranium enrichment centrifuges to a subterranean complex within the Pickaxe mountain range, President Trump announced that the U.S. intends to strike the site very soon.
