VinFast Launches Three New Electric Scooters With Battery Swapping in Philippines

Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast is making a decisive push into the Philippine two-wheeled mobility market, introducing three new electric scooters equipped with battery-swapping technology. Unveiled to a packed audience of motoring and tech journalists in Makati, the lineup includes the Evo, Feliz II, and Viper models, targeting a segment overwhelmingly dominated by gasoline-powered machines.

Executives are aiming to replicate the rapid scaling seen in Vietnam, where the company operates thousands of battery swapping stations.

Makati Launch Introduces Evo, Feliz II, and Viper Models

The newly launched scooters offer distinct price points, styling, and performance specs designed for urban commuters. The Evo serves as the entry-level option, featuring classic styling reminiscent of Italian scooters. It carries a sticker price of P62,900 when paired with a battery subscription, or P88,300 for an outright battery purchase. Powered by a 5.2-kilowatt motor, the Evo reaches a top speed of 80 kph, accelerates from zero to 50 kph in under six seconds, and delivers a range of up to 150 kilometers per charge.

Step-up models include the Feliz II and the sportier Viper. Priced at P64,900 with a subscription or P90,300 outright, the Feliz II boosts top speed to 90 kph while offering a slightly reduced maximum range of 145 kilometers. The Viper adopts an aggressive Japanese scooter aesthetic and stands as the most expensive in the Philippine trio, costing P73,900 with a subscription and P99,300 with an outright purchase. Across all models, the electric scooters are covered by a 4+2-year or 60,000+12,000-km warranty, providing added security for early adopters.

Targeting Infrastructure With a 30,000-Station Swapping Network

The core of VinFast’s strategy relies on a battery-swapping infrastructure developed in partnership with V-Green. The network allows riders to exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged unit in about one minute. The company plans to deploy approximately 30,000 stations nationwide, situated at dealerships, partner shops, malls, and gas stations.

This infrastructure rollout directly confronts past hurdles in the local EV market. While battery-swapping technology was introduced locally by Gogoro in 2023 under the Globe group of companies, subsequent showroom closures and scaled-back investments left a vacuum. VinFast executives argue that corporate commitment separates their push from previous attempts.

Subscription Pricing and Ownership Cost Comparisons

To reduce upfront barriers, VinFast offers a battery subscription model starting at P439 a month. Buyers who commit to a subscription on or before September 30 receive free battery swaps for the first year, capped at up to 20 swaps per battery per month. Riders can also charge batteries at home using an included portable charger, which takes three to four hours for a single battery or six to eight hours for a dual setup.

The subscription structure makes the initial vehicle purchase about 20% cheaper upfront than buying the scooter with the battery included. VinFast estimates that frequent users can achieve total ownership costs roughly 25% lower than a comparable gasoline motorcycle over five years. Additionally, the subscription policy addresses battery degradation concerns, with the company maintaining units and replacing them free of charge if performance drops below a set threshold.
