The Samarra Antiquities Directorate, affiliated with Salah al-Din Governorate, revealed today, Thursday, the presence of 808 archaeological sites in the district alone, while confirming the continuation of rehabilitation work and the resumption of work on the reconstruction of the Caliphate Palace and the Malwiya Mosque soon.

Director of Antiquities and Heritage of Samarra, Laith Saadi Taha Abboud, told the (INA): “Salah al-Din Governorate has archaeological and tourist sites, including those located in the Samarra district, where the district contains 808 archaeological sites, including excavated, excavated, and unexcavated.”
He added, “The Directorate of Antiquities and Heritage of Samarra, as an archaeological authority, has developed plans through the General Authority of Antiquities and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities to rehabilitate these sites, and they are continuing,” indicating that “Samarra’s archaeological sites are considered part of the world heritage and cannot be tampered with or worked on with any archaeological site without… With the approval of the international organization UNESCO.
Regarding the current works, he explained, “The completion rates in the ancient Caliphate Palace and the Grand Mosque of Malwiya have reached 25%, as work has been halted for more than a year due to the cessation of disbursement of operational financial dues,” noting that, “works and reconstruction stages will begin in the coming days at the sites.” Archaeological sites in the Grand Mosque of Malwiya and the ancient Caliphate Palace, after the launch of the operational advances.
