A world sheep shearing record was equaled after a shearer completed a run of 142 sheep, with the achievement confirmed by referees following a 40-minute review.

Record-Equaling Shearing Performance

The shearer had successive run tallies of 164, 142, 142, 141 and 142. The possibility of equaling the record, which has stood for nearly 60 years since formal rules were established in the late 1960s, began to emerge as the day progressed.

The crowd in the woolshed, including a support team of over 30 people and several other world record-breaking shearers, applauded as the machinery was switched off for the final time.

The sheep used in the attempt were at least 2 years old and carried an average of at least 3kg of wool each, as verified in a sample shear on Sunday afternoon.

A previous record of 721 was set in 2007 by Rod Sutton, who made the record-breaking catch just seconds before time was called, while still adhering to the rules and completing the sheep.

The record was not officially confirmed until four World Sheep Shearing Records Society referees completed their assessment, ensuring all rules and quality standards were met.
