Lok Sabha was briefly adjourned Monday as the Congress party requested a discussion regarding the crisis in West Asia, but did not receive a firm commitment from the government. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that Prime Minister Modi and other ministers have already addressed the issue in Parliament.
West Asia Crisis Discussion Demanded in Lok Sabha
The demand for a debate arose after Question Hour, with Congress MP Manish Tewari advocating for a discussion on the West Asia crisis and its potential implications.
Rijiju informed protesting members that the government is open to dialogue, emphasizing that Prime Minister Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri have all made statements on the matter in both Houses of Parliament.
“Whenever there is a crisis, we are all together, and there is no politics,” Rijiju said, noting the government’s prior convening of an all-party meeting to address concerns.
As opposition MPs continued their request, Speaker Om Birla briefly adjourned the proceedings. The House resumed its work without further interruption after reconvening.
