The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched an investigation into the destruction of solar panels in Lebanon after a video surfaced showing soldiers destroying equipment in the village of Debel.
IDF Investigation into Solar Panel Destruction
The solar panels served as civilian infrastructure for hundreds of residents who remained in their homes with the permission of the IDF.
The area previously belonged to Colonel Akel al-Hashim, a deputy commander of the South Lebanon Army, before his assassination by the IDF in 2000.
The IDF stated that the actions seen in the video are not in line with the military’s values or the conduct expected of its soldiers. Command measures will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Previous Conduct in Debel
The current probe follows a separate incident in the same village last week, where a soldier was photographed smashing a statue of Jesus.
The soldier who smashed the statue and the soldier who photographed the act were both removed from combat duty and given 30 days of military detention.
Six other soldiers present at the scene who did not act to stop or report the incident have been summoned for “clarification discussions” to determine additional measures.
