Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled its latest generation of foldable smartphones, introducing the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The new devices were debuted at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, marking the eighth generation of foldable innovation since the series launched in 2019.
According to en.yna.co.kr, the new lineup is designed to provide personalized artificial intelligence experiences and cater to diverse user lifestyles. Roh Tae-moon, co-CEO and head of Samsung’s mobile business, stated that the series represents the company’s most refined foldable lineup to date.
Design and Technical Specifications
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a design shift toward a shorter and wider form factor, which Samsung describes as resembling a notebook. When unfolded, the device features a 7.6-inch main screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio optimized for reading, gaming, and video viewing. Its cover screen measures 5.5 inches with a 10:16 aspect ratio.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the first foldable in the brand’s history to carry the "Ultra" moniker, serves as the high-end successor to the Z Fold 7. It features an 8-inch main screen and is marketed as the thinnest and lightest model in the fold series, measuring 4.1 millimeters in thickness when unfolded and weighing 215 grams. It includes an upgraded camera system and a larger battery to support productivity and content creation.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8, designed for portability and social media use, weighs 180 grams and measures 6.1 millimeters thick when unfolded. It is the lightest Galaxy Z Flip model produced to date.
Market Strategy and AI Integration
The new smartphones come equipped with Google’s Gemini Notebook app, which allows for document analysis and cross-app functionality. Samsung is positioning these devices to appeal to a broader audience beyond early adopters, focusing on general tasks such as video consumption and web browsing.

"By setting a new standard for foldables, we are once again advancing the premium mobile experience," said TM Roh.
The launch occurs as Samsung seeks to solidify its position in the foldable market ahead of an anticipated move by Apple into the foldable space later this year. Analysts suggest that Apple’s entry could increase overall consumer awareness of foldable technology. Drew Blackard, Samsung’s senior vice president of mobile product management, told CNN that the company views the growing diversity of phone form factors as a return to the variety seen in the pre-smartphone era.
Pricing and Availability
The new models carry higher price points than previous generations, a change Samsung attributes to the rising costs of memory chips required to power artificial intelligence features.
