A wave of frost sweeps South Korea »

A polar cold wave swept across northern South Korea, causing the temperature in the capital, Seoul, to drop to 22 degrees below zero on the coldest morning this season.

Temperatures dropped to minus 24.7 degrees Celsius in the North Korean border town of Cheorwon, minus 20.6 degrees Celsius in the nearby town of Hwacheon, and minus 18.4 degrees Celsius in Daeggualleong Pass, according to the Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA).KMA).

The agency said Seoul recorded minus 14.4 degrees Celsius, with felt temperatures falling to minus 22 degrees Celsius.

Heavy snowfall of 1 to 5 centimeters per hour continued to affect South Jeju Island, South Jeolla Province and the west coast of South Chungcheong Province until 8 a.m., where a heavy snowfall warning was issued earlier.

The meteorological agency said that snow will fall throughout the day in the regions and until Friday on Jeju Island, where some mountainous areas in the region will see snow accumulation of more than 60 centimeters.

At five o’clock in the morning, other major cities recorded temperatures below the freezing point, as it recorded minus 12.8 degrees Celsius in Incheon, 27 kilometers west of Seoul, minus 11.9 degrees Celsius in the central city of Daejeon, and minus 6.7 degrees Celsius. Minus Celsius in Gwangju, and minus 6.5 degrees Celsius in Busan.

Earlier, the government issued the second highest warning, after issuing a warning of heavy snowfall in the southern regions of the country.
