Multiple volcanoes around the world are exhibiting increased activity, with ash plumes and eruptions reported in Kamchatka, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vanuatu, Guatemala, and Ecuador as of Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Shiveluch Volcano (Kamchatka)

Explosive activity continues at Shiveluch volcano. The Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Washington reported a volcanic ash plume reaching an estimated altitude of 32,000 feet (9,800 meters) and moving at 35 knots in a southeasterly direction. Further details are available in the full report.

Mayon Volcano (Philippines)

Mayon volcano on Luzon Island is also erupting. The Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Tokyo issued a report detailing the eruption. Details of the eruption are available here.

Ibu Volcano (Indonesia)

Explosive activity is ongoing at Ibu volcano in Halmahera, Indonesia. VAAC Darwin warned of a volcanic ash plume rising to an estimated 7,000 feet (2,100 meters) and moving at 5 knots in an easterly direction. The full report can be found here.

Lewotolo Volcano (Lesser Sunda Islands)

Lewotolo volcano continues to exhibit explosive activity. VAAC Darwin reported a volcanic ash plume reaching an estimated 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) and moving at 15 knots in a northeasterly direction. More information is available in the full report.

Aoba Volcano (Vanuatu)

Explosive activity continues at Aoba volcano. VAAC Wellington warned about a volcanic ash plume rising to an estimated 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) and moving at 10 knots in an easterly direction. The full report is available here.

Fuego and Sangay Volcanoes (Guatemala & Ecuador)

Fuego volcano in Guatemala and Sangay volcano in Ecuador are also experiencing volcanic activity. VAAC Washington issued reports for both volcanoes. Details on Fuego are here. Reventador Volcano (Ecuador)

Piton de la Fournaise (La Réunion)

An effusive eruption continues at Piton de la Fournaise. The lava flow remains active and is reaching the shoreline. A high thermal anomaly of 1259 MW was detected on March 16th.
