The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) announced that, in agreement with the International Federation (FIFA), they will not tolerate any external interference in the internal affairs of the Brazilian Confederation and will not hesitate to stop Brazil if Ednaldo Rodriguez is not restored to the presidency of the Confederation.
The source, who requested anonymity, explained, “The laws are clear and explicit. In no case does external forces allow interference in the field of jurisdiction of the federations concerned.”
Brazilian Federation President Rodriguez was removed from his position on the seventh of this month following the court decision that invalidated an agreement that allowed his election.
Rodriguez’s dismissal is considered an additional blow to Brazilian football and the “Seleção” team, which is going through a difficult period in terms of results, with the injury of its star Neymar and his suffering three consecutive defeats in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
This court invalidated an agreement between the Brazilian Federation and the Rio Public Prosecutor’s Office, dating back to March 2022, which subsequently allowed Rodriguez to be elected as head of the Federation until 2026.
FIFA and CONMEBOL decided to send a mission to Rio de Janeiro, which will begin work on the eighth of next month, to try to find a solution to the crisis.
