Former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane has addressed the controversy surrounding his unpublished memoir, clarifying its publication status after a report alleged the Modi government had suppressed details of the China border crisis. The book, initially listed for pre-order and described as “available now” by the publisher, Penguin Random House, has become the subject of conflicting statements regarding its release.

Naravane Breaks Silence on Memoir Controversy

Naravane stated that the pre-order version and the published version of the book are not the same, according to reports. Penguin Random House has issued multiple clarifications, acknowledging the discrepancies and attributing them to internal errors.

The controversy began when excerpts from the book, published by The Caravan, detailed accounts of the India-China border dispute. Rahul Gandhi cited a 2023 post indicating the book was “available now” to rebut the publisher’s claims that the book was not yet officially released.

Penguin Random House released a second clarification within 24 hours, reiterating that the pre-order and published versions differed. The publisher stated the initial listing was an error and that the final version reflects the author’s approved content.

The book reportedly contains details about how the Modi government managed the narrative surrounding the border crisis with China. Naravane has not publicly commented on the specific allegations of suppression but has acknowledged the issues surrounding the book’s publication.

As of now, the book remains available for purchase, but its content and the circumstances surrounding its release continue to be debated.
