Thousands of people across Canada participated in demonstrations Saturday in solidarity with protests against the Iranian government, marking a Global Day of Action.
Toronto Sees One of its Largest Protests
Toronto hosted one of the largest protests, with demonstrators marching in North York to show support for those protesting in Iran. The Globe and Mail, CTV News, and the Toronto Star all reported on the significant turnout.
The protests are in response to ongoing unrest in Iran, sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022 after being detained by the morality police. Demonstrators are calling for an end to the Islamic Republic’s authoritarian rule.
Demonstrations Across Canada
Beyond Toronto, demonstrations took place in Calgary, Kelowna, and other Canadian cities. Calgary protesters joined the global movement, chanting “We’re still united, we’re still fighting.” Hundreds gathered in Kelowna for a Day of Action in support of Iran, according to reports.
The protests across Canada reflect a widespread international movement expressing solidarity with the people of Iran and their demands for change.
