Heavy rainfall on Thursday led to significant Jakarta flooding, leaving 21 neighborhoods inundated as of Friday morning, April 17, 2026.

  • 21 neighborhoods affected across East and South Jakarta.
  • Water levels in East Jakarta range from 20 to 80 centimeters.
  • Monitoring posts at Depok and Katulampa Dam both reached Alert Level 3.

East Jakarta Most Affected by Flooding

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that the majority of the impacted areas are located in East Jakarta, where 15 neighborhoods remain flooded.

According to BPBD Data and Information Center Head Mohamad Yohan, the flooding in East Jakarta spans four sub-districts: Cawang (7 neighborhoods), Kampung Melayu (4), Bidara Cina (2), and Cililitan (2).

Yohan stated that the overflow of the Ciliwung River caused water levels in these areas to reach between 20 and 80 centimeters.

South Jakarta and Monitoring Alerts

Flooding also impacted six neighborhoods in South Jakarta. As of Friday morning, four neighborhoods in Pejaten Timur remained inundated, along with one neighborhood each in Rawajati and Tanjung Barat.

The flooding followed critical alerts at key monitoring stations. The Depok monitoring post reached Alert Level 3 at 9:00 PM Thursday, followed by the Katulampa Dam reaching Alert Level 3 at 3:00 AM Friday.

BPBD personnel have been deployed to affected areas to monitor conditions and coordinate with relevant agencies to pump out water and ensure drainage systems are functioning properly.

“The goal is to accelerate the recession of floodwaters,” Yohan said, urging residents to remain cautious and alert to potential further flooding.
