French President Emmanuel Macron said that he “bears the consequences” of passing a strict immigration law in France that sparked a serious political crisis within the presidential majority, stressing that the French people have long been “waiting for him.”

In an interview with France 5, Macron considered that the law is “the shield that we lack,” the day after its text was adopted in Parliament with the support of the right and the extreme right, but it destabilized the majority, which prompted Health Minister Aurélien Rousseau to resign.
The president commented on the matter by saying, “I respect” his decision, before stressing the “responsibility” of the ruling.
He explained, “These responsibilities bind us, and we must bear responsibility for what happened yesterday, and tensions must also be calmed,” stressing that “our citizens were waiting for this law.”
He pointed out that the text aims to deter illegal immigrants, but he categorically rejected that the provisions of the law were inspired by the extreme right.
One of Macron’s supporters considered supporting the far right a “severe blow” to the majority. For its part, the government confirmed that the text would have been approved even without the National Rally party’s vote, that is, if its deputies abstained from voting. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin welcomed the adoption of a “strong and firm” text to protect the French and settle the conditions of workers. “illegals.”
Political analysts and the opposition confirm that the draft law would not have been approved if the representatives of the National Rally Party had voted against it.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said, “I am a very humanitarian person… and I made sure that the text respected our values.”
Meanwhile, it admitted that some measures may be unconstitutional and that the text “may be amended” after it is studied by the Constitutional Council after the President of the Republic referred it to it.
After the criticism, the Prime Minister strived to confirm that there was no crisis within the majority of them, although several ministers from the “left wing” of Macron’s supporters threatened to resign if the text was adopted.
