The Ukrainian Air Force announced at dawn on Tuesday that it had destroyed in the Black Sea a Russian warship suspected of being loaded with drones used by Moscow in its war against Kiev.
The Air Force said in a post on the Telegram application that “the large landing ship Novocherkassk was destroyed” by Air Force pilots.
He added: “It was loaded with drones that Russia uses extensively in its war against Ukraine.”
The statement did not specify the location of the strike, but Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk posted a video clip showing the flash of an explosion and a ball of flame illuminating the darkness of the night at the Russian naval base of Feodosia, located in the Black Sea on the Crimean Peninsula.
The President of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, confirmed that an attack had occurred in Feodosia.
The Russian official said in a post on Telegram, “A hostile attack was carried out in the Feodosia region, and a security cordon was imposed around the port area,” noting that “the explosion ended and the fire was contained.”
Aksyonov did not specify the nature of the damage, but he confirmed that the authorities had to evacuate residents of a number of homes.
