Laoag LGU to Host Job Fair in October

Laoag City is ramping up its localized workforce mobilization strategy to curb unemployment and drive inclusive economic growth, anchored by an upcoming recruitment drive scheduled for October 7, 2026, at the Laoag City Conference Room. Spearheaded by the City Government of Laoag through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), the initiative responds directly to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to empower the domestic labor force.

PESO Job Fairs Connect Workers with Local Enterprises

Rather than treating job fairs as standard transactional events, PESO manager Shey Pia G. Abaya views them as essential economic bridges. These drives connect fresh graduates, displaced workers, and skilled laborers with local enterprises, retail giants, and regulated industries.

This localized labor strategy builds directly on the success of the two-part “Just Bring Ambition” Job Fair series held in September. That effort drew 116 total walk-in applicants and successfully placed over 30 job seekers, yielding hired-on-the-spot rates of 38.89% and 28% respectively.

The rates are very important to us. It should be more than 10%. If we conduct job fairs, more than 10% of the registrants should be hired,
Shey Pia G. Abaya, PESO manager

The upcoming October 7 recruitment event runs from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, offering a diverse array of open positions including customer assistants, cashiers, service crews, sales associates, marketing coordinators, and drivers. While local placement demand remains anchored by expanding retail, logistics, and food service sectors, global employment pathways are also facilitated through entities strictly monitored by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Laoag Government Provides Pre-Employment Clearances and Career Support

To address structural economic barriers before applicants even reach the interview stage, the Laoag Local Government Unit embeds vital support systems directly into its labor agenda. On-site collaborative desks involving the Social Security System, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG Fund, and the National Bureau of Investigation allow jobseekers to process mandatory pre-employment clearances efficiently.

Beyond formal job placement, PESO Laoag provides free individual and group Career Development Support Programs designed to steer applicants toward specialized technical-vocational training through TESDA.

The PESO office is open to conducting career development support programs, whether by group or individually. We can conduct this program in support of people who need to equip themselves with essential knowledge in order for them to look for jobs out there,
Shey Pia G. Abaya, PESO manager

Funded through the city’s annual local budget and operated in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment, these back-to-back recruitment drives turn local business hubs into functional engines of opportunity. Local authorities maintain that applicants who bring updated résumés, valid IDs, and relevant credentials will find ample opportunity in the city's businesses, provided they remain adaptable.

To everyone seeking employment, the business community in Laoag City has so much to offer in terms of jobs, as long as they are not too picky in looking for work,
Shey Pia G. Abaya, PESO manager
