Sence Launches 10 Free Online Mining Courses Featuring AI Modules

Chile’s national training service Sence has expanded its online catalog to ten free mining courses, incorporating new modules on artificial intelligence and automation. Designed for adults with a Chilean RUT and ClaveÚnica, the self-paced programs are open for registration through September 30, 2026, offering official digital certification without requiring prior industry experience.

Chilean workers looking to break into the mining sector or sharpen their technical skills now have access to an expanded, zero-cost digital curriculum. The Servicio Nacional de Capacitación y Empleo (Sence) updated its online educational portal in an alliance with the specialized platform MineClass to feature 10 specialized courses focused on modern mining operations and applied artificial intelligence. Developed in partnership with the specialized platform MineClass, the additions aim to ready the workforce for automated and technology-driven shifts in the industry. The trainings are 100% online, asincrónicas y entregan un diploma oficial Sence al finalizar, with no previous industry experience required.

New Modules Target Underground Projects and Mine Closure

The expanded catalog introduces two newly integrated four-hour modules centered squarely on technological automation. The Proyecto Minero Subterráneo (4 horas) (Nuevo) course introduces students to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and its practical application in the work environment, covering its practical workplace deployment alongside critical discussions of ethical aspects, biases, and safety. Meanwhile, the Cierre de Faenas Mineras (4 horas) (Nuevo) module utilizes practical cases to apply advanced AI tools oriented toward process optimization and data-based decision-making.

These additions join an existing roster of online, asynchronous offerings designed to accommodate varied learning speeds. The full catalog of the 10 available courses encompasses:

  • Proyecto Minero Subterráneo (4 hours)
  • Cierre de Faenas Mineras (4 hours)
  • Planificación Minera Subterránea (2 hours)
  • Planificación Estratégica del Negocio Minero (4 hours)
  • Minería a Cielo Abierto (16 hours)
  • Geología General (4 hours)

Regional authorities are actively pushing participation to ensure local populations capture upcoming labor market openings. In the Aysén region, Seremi de Minería de Aysén José Luis Osorio emphasized the practical advantage of early preparation, noting that the Seremi de Minería joined in disseminating this educational offering because it represents a concrete opportunity for more people to learn about the sector and arrive better prepared when they face a selection process or decide to start a labor trajectory in mining.

José Luis Osorio, Regional Ministerial Secretary of Mining of Aysén, stated that they wanted their people to be prepared to take advantage of new opportunities in mining whenever they open up, adding that the possibility of training for free from anywhere in the region and at each person’s own pace currently exists, which is why they wanted to support the promotion of this initiative driven by Sence.

Osorio valued the work carried out by Sence to bring training opportunities closer to the regions and highlighted that this type of initiative helps more people acquire knowledge linked to an industry that demands increasingly better-prepared workers.

Registration Requirements and Deadlines for Applicants

The training initiative imposes minimal administrative barriers to entry, maintaining open access for anyone who meets three baseline conditions. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, possess a valid Chilean Identity Card (RUT), and hold an active ClaveÚnica credential.
