By January 6, one hundred and three years have passed since the founding of the Iraqi army, a formation that, with its courage, marked victories and exploits after another, achieved heroics with relentless determination, and protected Iraq for decades.

On the 103rd anniversary of its founding, the Protectors of the Homeland are still writing tales of victory with purely Iraqi fingers, whether in continuing to pursue the remnants of terrorism or contributing to the provision of humanitarian aid internally and externally, in addition to continuing progress in raising efficiency, readiness and preparation, especially since this ancient institution possesses the experience. The large amount that its sons obtained in the fateful war against the terrorist ISIS gangs, which ended with a triumphant victory over terrorism and the liberation of the land, in which the army, along with the rest of the security formations, presented martyrdom projects for the sake of the land of Mesopotamia.

Khaled’s travel

Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, told the (INA), “Iraq’s people, government, and security and civil institutions, including the valiant army, celebrate every year with more pride the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi army, the owner of heroics, exploits, and immortal travel.” He stressed that “the Iraqi army has many heroic stances, sacrifices and epics at the local and Arab levels.”

Al-Muhammadawi adds, “The current situation of the army and its components, types, and services is better and more prepared, and has witnessed great development during the current period, and there is a need to support it technologically and develop some important joints that are compatible with the current challenges, whether regional or international, to raise capabilities.”

He warned that “the challenges and type of wars have differed now, and therefore we hope to support it with drones and air defense systems, confront cyber warfare, control borders, and other important and strategic matters.”

Government interest in armament

He pointed out, “The current government, headed by Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, pays great attention to the army in terms of equipment and arming, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces chairs an expanded meeting of the Supreme Armaments Council every 10-15 days, with the relevant authorities from the departments and directorates concerned with arming the army.”

He stressed, “There are concrete steps to arm the army from developed countries, and there are financial allocations and efforts to find more than one means away from the budget, allocations, and routine to accelerate arming and equipping, diversifying weapons, and relying on different origins at the level of the regional environment and some Arab countries such as Egypt or nearby ones such as Turkey, Iran, or At the European level and some developed countries, and some of them even in Asia and East Asia, such as South Korea,” adding, “Work is ongoing and ongoing by the concerned authorities who are working day and night for the purpose of arming the Iraqi army with what it needs.”

In turn, the Commander of Sumer Operations, Lieutenant General Saad Harbiyeh, in his speech to the (INA), presented congratulations on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi army to all the heroic fighters of the army, officers, ranks and associates.
He added, “After the army achieved many security successes in the past, especially in the war on terrorism, we hope that this year will be full of achievements.”

Clear fingerprint

For his part, the security and strategic expert, Sarmad Al-Bayati, told the (INA), “The Iraqi army had a clear imprint and the upper hand in liberating Iraq and confronting the ISIS terrorist attack in cooperation with the rest of the security forces.”
He added, “The Iraqi army is an immortal piece of Iraqi history, and is currently at the height of its greatness, but it needs many aspects of armament in order to keep pace with technical development in the world, such as air defense methods and systems in order to protect Iraq’s airspace.”
He stressed, “The need for large financial allocations in order for the army to be proficient in all its tools.”

The expert in security and strategic affairs, Mukhled Hazem, said in his speech to the (INA): “There is clear support by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to achieve integration in the armed forces system by supporting the types of air force and air defense, as well as supporting all types of ground forces, and if we want Speaking about the wilderness, we will say that it is ready and has competence in field defense, and war strategies require the support of all types. Whoever owns the land needs to have military weight in the sky.”
He added, “The contracts that the government signed and is preparing to sign move in this direction to achieve integration in building the land, air, and naval forces to raise capabilities and efficiency in facing challenges.”
