SOS Mediterranean, a non-governmental organization based in Marseille, southern France, announced that its ship, the Ocean Viking, rescued 26 irregular migrants, including two minors, who were facing difficulties off the Libyan coast.

The humanitarian organization published photos showing migrants crowded onto a small boat made of fiberglass while it was sailing in international waters.
But SOS Mediterranean said that the boat was in the Libyan search and rescue area when it rescued it.
The next destination of these 26 rescued migrants is unknown.
SOS Mediterranean has rescued more than 39,000 people in the Mediterranean Sea since 2016, especially in the central sector of this sea, which constitutes the most dangerous migration route in the world.
Since January 2023, 2,210 migrants have been considered missing after they attempted to cross the Mediterranean in an attempt to reach Europe, according to the International Organization for Migration.
