Trump Media & Technology Group is launching a paid API service on August 1 to provide institutional traders with licensed, real-time access to Truth Social posts. The move faces sharp criticism from ethics experts and lawmakers, who characterize the sale of expedited access to presidential communications as a conflict of interest.

The service is designed to allow Wall Street firms and other institutional clients to receive high-speed data feeds of posts from the platform’s most prominent accounts. While the company did not explicitly name President Donald Trump in its press release, the platform’s primary draw for financial markets is his @realDonaldTrump account, which currently holds 12.9 million followers.

According to The Guardian, the service aims to help institutional investors gain a competitive edge by reacting to market-moving information—such as updates on tariffs or foreign policy—before the general public. Markets have historically demonstrated volatility following presidential posts on the platform, with CNBC reporting that firms already utilize algorithms to monitor sentiment and trends on social networks.

Ethics Concerns and Conflict of Interest Allegations

The announcement has drawn immediate backlash from ethics watchdogs and Democratic lawmakers, who argue that the arrangement exploits the presidency for personal financial gain. Virginia Canter, an ethics attorney with the Democracy Defenders Fund, stated that the president is effectively funneling official communications through a private channel in which he maintains a significant financial stake.

“It’s a huge conflict of interest,” the president “has an obligation to the American people to convey information to them publicly, and he’s now funneling it through a private channel in which he has a private interest as one of its largest shareholders.”

Financial Stakes for Trump Media

The push for new revenue streams follows a period of significant financial volatility for the company. Since its Nasdaq debut on March 26, 2024, shares of TMTG have declined substantially. TMTG has sought to diversify its business model, venturing into cryptocurrency and other initiatives to bolster its market position.

President Trump maintains a substantial interest in the company’s success. He indirectly owns approximately 53% of TMTG through shares transferred to a trust in December 2024. As of the most recent disclosures, this stake represents a paper fortune of roughly $1.41 billion. Despite the company’s efforts to monetize its data, TMTG did not respond to inquiries regarding whether the president’s posts would be excluded from the paid feed.

Market Impact of Presidential Communications

The integration of Truth Social into high-frequency trading reflects the platform’s unique role in the current administration. Unlike previous presidential communication strategies, the president uses Truth Social to announce major policy shifts, including naval blockades and fee adjustments, often before official government channels. Institutional investors now treat the site as a critical source of real-time intelligence.

While Trump Media’s interim CEO Kevin McGurn noted that Markets already move on Truth Social posts, critics remain focused on the institutional implications of the service. Because the president is the platform’s largest shareholder, the company’s ability to turn a profit is directly linked to the traffic and engagement generated by his account. As of July 17, 2026, the company has not disclosed the pricing structure for the new API service, leaving the exact cost of this expedited, privileged access unknown to the public.
