Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Missing: Investigation Focuses on Walmart Backpack

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her Arizona home on January 31 and reported missing the following day. Authorities discovered her blood on the front porch.

The FBI released surveillance videos showing a masked individual with a handgun holster outside Guthrie’s Tucson home the night she disappeared. Another camera captured footage of a person wearing a backpack, ski mask, long pants, a jacket, and gloves.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated in a text message that the 25-litre Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack is the only clothing item “definitively identified” in the investigation. “This backpack is exclusive to Walmart and we are working with Walmart management to develop further leads,” Nanos said.

While the suspect’s other clothing “may have been purchased from Walmart but is not exclusively available at Walmart,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department noted in a statement. This remains a possibility.

A glove found near the Guthrie home has been sent for DNA testing, with preliminary results received Saturday and awaiting official confirmation, investigators announced Sunday.

The FBI describes the suspect as a man approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a medium build.

Authorities have expressed concern for Nancy Guthrie’s health, as she requires daily medication and has a pacemaker, along with a history of high blood pressure and heart issues, according to sheriff’s dispatcher audio.
