A woman in her 30s has been arrested by South Korean police on suspicion of fatally abusing her eight-month-old son in a harrowing infant abuse case.

According to the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police, the woman admitted to repeatedly hitting the infant on the head with a TV remote on April 10. Shortly after the incident, the child was taken to a hospital in Bucheon.

Medical examinations revealed the child had sustained serious head injuries, including a skull fracture. Although doctors recommended immediate hospitalization, the mother refused the treatment and took the child home.

Investigation Into Infant Abuse Case

On April 13, the woman returned the child to the same hospital after finding him unconscious. The infant died the following day.

During the subsequent police investigation, home surveillance footage revealed that the parents had left the child unsupervised and alone for several hours on multiple occasions.

The mother initially told investigators that the child’s injuries were the result of a fall during a bath. She later admitted to the assault, leading to her emergency arrest. A preliminary autopsy confirmed that the infant died from head injuries.

The mother told police she assaulted the child because he continued to cry and refused to sleep. Police have questioned the father as a witness and are currently determining if he was involved in the abuse or enabled the actions.
