Anthony Taylor Appointed MHK Elite Referee Director by Turkish Football Federation

Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu Merkez Hakem Kurulu (MHK) stated that the Central Referee Board of the Turkish Football Federation had undertaken a significant collaboration that would contribute to the development of Turkish refereeing, and that Anthony Taylor, one of world football’s most experienced elite referees, had begun his duties as MHK Elite Referee Director.

According to the details released by the federation, Taylor will focus his efforts on planning technical development processes for top-class referees, strengthening performance evaluation systems, preparing training programs, and advancing match analysis alongside feedback processes. Additionally, he will lead the creation of referee development strategies aligned with UEFA and FIFA standards.

The federation emphasized its confidence in the appointment, adding that the Turkish Football Federation believed the international knowledge and top-level experience possessed by Anthony Taylor would make significant contributions to the development of Turkish refereeing, and wished him success in his new role for the good of Turkish football.

English Football Association Career and FIFA Badge

Taylor transitions into this administrative post following a lengthy career on the pitch. Having served as a high-level referee within the framework of the English Football Association for many years, he held a FIFA badge starting in 2013. Widely regarded as one of the most consistent referees in Premier League history, Taylor logged over 20 years in refereeing, officiating 831 matches total, which included 432 matches across 16 seasons in the Premier League.

International Fixtures and Major Tournaments

On the international stage, Taylor handled numerous critical fixtures across major tournaments including the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championship, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Nations League, and FIFA Club World Cup. His high-profile assignments featured the 2022-2023 UEFA Europa League Final, the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup Final, the 2021 UEFA Nations League Final, and the 2020 UEFA Super Cup Final. Domestically in England, he refereed the 2015 EFL Cup Final, the 2015 FA Community Shield, the FA Cup finals in 2017 and 2020, and the 2018 Championship play-off final.

Taylor retired at the age of 47 following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, where his final on-field assignment was the round of 16 match between Spain and Portugal.
