A fire broke out at a gas station in the Russian Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga, the region’s governor said Sunday morning.

The site, located 110 kilometers west of Saint Petersburg near the border with Estonia, is operated by Novatek, Russia’s largest natural gas producer.
“No casualties as a result of a fire at the Novatek station in the port of Ust-Luga. Employees have been evacuated,” Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko wrote on Telegram in his message, accompanied by a short video clip showing a huge fire and smoke.
He added, “A high level of alert has been declared in the Kingisipski area,” which includes the port.
He stated that the Ministry of Emergency Situations and local firefighters were mobilized to fight the fire.
The Russian TASS agency and other official media reported that the cause of the fire was unknown.
According to the Novatek website, the Ust-Luga complex processes natural gas and converts it into naphtha, a liquid mixture intermediate between gasoline and kerosene.
