The Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, urged people to wear masks and be vaccinated against the Coronavirus (Covid-19), after recording a rise in infection cases for weeks in many countries.
“The number of respiratory illnesses caused by COVID-19, influenza and other pathogens has been rising in many countries for several weeks and is expected to continue beyond the recent holidays,” Tedros wrote on his social media page.
He called on everyone to take a coronavirus (Covid-19) test and seek medical care when necessary.
The head of the World Health Organization added: “Continue to use masks, ventilation and distancing to reduce infections.”
He also called on countries to ensure access to tests and vaccines and maintain continuous COVID-19 sequencing to track the evolution of mutations.
