Far North police find firearm, meth and offensive weapon in stolen car

A 24-year-old man was arrested on firearms charges after a routine traffic stop in the Far North led to the discovery of a stolen vehicle, a firearm, ammunition, methamphetamine, and other illicit items.

Firearm and Drug Discovery Following Traffic Stop

Police detected a vehicle exceeding the 50km/h speed limit on State Highway 11, Kawakawa, at approximately 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Upon stopping the vehicle, officers discovered it had been reported stolen the previous week. The driver informed police that a firearm was inside, prompting a warrantless search.

The search resulted in the seizure of a firearm, ammunition, another offensive weapon, methamphetamine, and associated drug paraphernalia.
