The Director-General of the World Health Organization has warned that Gazans face “grave danger”, speaking as acute hunger and despair spread across the war-torn Palestinian enclave.

The World Health Organization said it had delivered supplies to two hospitals, one in the north and the other in the south, and that 21 out of 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip had completely stopped working.
WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called on the international community to take “urgent steps to mitigate the grave danger facing the people of Gaza that undermines the ability of humanitarian workers to help people suffering from horrific injuries and acute hunger, and who are at high risk of disease.”
The World Health Organization said in a statement that its staff reported that the need for food “remains urgent” throughout the Gaza Strip, while “hungry people stopped our convoys again today in the hope of obtaining food.”
“The World Health Organization’s ability to provide medicines, medical supplies and fuel to hospitals is increasingly constrained by the hunger and desperation of people inside these hospitals and those on their way to them,” she added.
“The safety of our staff and continuity of operations depend on more food arriving throughout Gaza, immediately,” Tedros said.
A resolution adopted by the UN Security Council last week called for “the safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance on a large scale.”
He added, “What we urgently need now is a ceasefire to spare civilians from further violence and begin the long road toward reconstruction and peace.”
