The BBC documentary titled Jared Leto : Hollywood’s Dark Secret brings forward testimony from four women who accuse the actor of sexual assaults and misconduct, grouped under the general term of sexual offenses by the British media. The reporting outlines distinct encounters where all denounced acts allegedly took place while the victims were teenagers, including an incident where a woman states she was sexually assaulted at age 17 in the bathroom of a motel.

Additional accounts describe an encounter in California involving another 17-year-old, with her minority status at the time potentially making the acts a statutory rape, according to the BBC. A third woman interviewed by the British public broadcaster recounted that Jared Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19 years old, after she unexpectedly found herself alone with him in a hotel room. Another woman interviewed in the project stated that the actor abused his notoriety and manipulated her to make sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 years old, during which he suggested they have sexual relations. This same woman subsequently refused to sign a confidentiality agreement—consulted by the BBC—that would have prohibited her from speaking about her relationship with the American actor, who won an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.

Wider Testimony and Former Collaborators

Four other women cited in the documentary also mentioned receiving “strange” and very sexually explicit calls from the comedian when they were younger. In total, ten women spoke with the BBC regarding the Suicide Squad star, with nine of them sharing their stories for the first time. The reported interactions took place between 2002 and 2016, a period when Jared Leto was in his thirties and forties. Friends and relatives of the presumed victims corroborated parts of these accounts after the women had confided their interactions with the actor to them.

Beyond the women who stepped forward, two men who worked for many years with his rock band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, contributed to the film. They stated that the teams working with the actor felt “uncomfortable” regarding his attitude toward teenage girls, whom he sometimes invited backstage to his dressing room or to his home where he recorded.

Actor Response and Legal Denials

In June 2025, Jared Leto had already faced accusations of inappropriate behavior from nine women who alleged he held a terrifying predator attitude toward them, though representatives for the star denied several of those accounts reported in the British press at the time. Prior to the release of the project, Jared Leto had not responded to multiple attempts by the BBC to contact him for the documentary. Following the premiere, a statement was published through his representatives in the magazine People and reported by AFP on the evening of Wednesday, July 29.

Jared Leto stated via Le HuffPost that he had never sexually assaulted anyone in his entire life and that those allegations were absolutely and categorically false.

The 54-year-old actor’s public stance remains firm as the broadcast circulates in the United Kingdom, categorically dismissing every claim presented in the investigative documentary.
