Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 Foldable Smartphones

Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest generation of foldable smartphones during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event held at Old Billingsgate in London on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. The new lineup, which includes the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8, represents a strategic attempt by the South Korean technology giant to reaffirm its dominance in the foldable market, a category it has operated in since 2019. This launch precedes anticipated moves into the foldable space by U.S. competitor Apple.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform

The new devices are powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, Snapdragon Wear™ Elite Platform, and Snapdragon® AR1 Gen 1, as announced by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. at the event. According to Cristiano Amon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Qualcomm Incorporated, this hardware provides the foundation for a unified AI experience across Samsung’s ecosystem, including smartphones, the Galaxy Watch9, Galaxy Watch Ultra2, and new Intelligent Eyewear.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Hardware Design and Dimensions

Hardware design remains a primary focus of the new series. The Galaxy Z Fold8 features a 7.6-inch (19.3-centimeter) screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio optimized for video viewing and measures 4.5 millimeters (0.18 inch) thick when unfolded. Weighing 201 grams, the device is described as compact and, according to early hands-on impressions, offers a broader, “squatter” form factor compared to tall and narrow foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is positioned as a refinement of the previous year’s Z Fold7. Color options for the Z Fold8 include Graphite, Cream, and Lavender, with an exclusive Pistachio color available via Samsung.com.

Roh Tae-moon and Global Pricing for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

Samsung has adopted a higher pricing strategy for the global market, citing rising memory component costs driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence. The flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra with 256 gigabytes (GB) of storage is priced at $2,099 in the United States and 2,199 euros ($2,509.5) in Europe. These figures represent a 20.4 percent and 44 percent increase, respectively, over the model’s launch price in Korea of 2.58 million won (approximately $1,743). While overseas prices are up to 48 percent higher than Korean launch prices, Samsung Electronics co-CEO and Head of Device Experience Division Roh Tae-moon stated that keeping prices lower in Korea remains a goal, as the domestic market serves as the foundation for the brand’s global competitiveness.
