Demonstrators objecting to the results of the recent legislative elections in Serbia attacked the Belgrade municipal building and smashed windows with stones, before the police confronted them, according to an Agence France-Presse correspondent.

The demonstrators threw stones, sticks, and eggs at the building, shattering windows. They tried to enter it forcefully, but police forces prevented them.
Police forces were deployed in front of the main entrance to the municipal building, and used pepper spray in particular. By 10 pm local time, the demonstrators were dispersed.
For his part, President Aleksandar Vucic, whose party won the legislative elections on December 17, confirmed that two policemen were “seriously injured” during the demonstration and that more than 35 people were arrested.
He described the events as an attempt to “forcefully control state institutions,” adding that he had “strong evidence” that “everything was prepared in advance.”
Vucic continued in statements broadcast by the pro-government Pink TV channel, “No one has the right to destroy our house, destroy the property of our country and our citizens, or cause our policemen to be seriously injured.”
