The Arab Parliament calls on its American counterpart to reconsider moving the Washington Embassy to Jerusalem

Cairo – INA The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Dr. Meshaal bin Fahm Al-Salami, today, Thursday, asked the US House of Representatives to “reconsider the law requiring the transfer of the United States Embassy to the city of Jerusalem and the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the occupying power.” The Speaker of the Arab Parliament affirmed, through an official letter addressed today to the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, “the Arab nation, with all its Muslims and Christians, categorically rejects the US administration’s decision to adopt the law, which is considered a violation and a blatant challenge to all international conventions, customs and resolutions related to the Palestinian issue, and threatens security.” And international peace in the region and the world, and provokes the feelings of Arabs, Muslims, Christians, and free people of the world because of Jerusalem’s importance, symbolism, and deep religious, historical, and cultural status among Arabs, Muslims, and Christians.” The Speaker of the Arab Parliament stressed, “The need for the United States of America – as a permanent member of the UN Security Council – to adhere to the resolutions approved by the United Nations and approved by the United States of America in terms of resolutions related to the occupied city of Jerusalem, as well as the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, the principles of international law, and UN Security Council resolutions.” All of which affirm the preservation of the legal and historical status of Jerusalem, and East Jerusalem is considered an integral part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967. The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, on behalf of the Arab people, expressed categorical rejection of this decision, and regretted this position, which took the United States of America out of the international consensus and left it isolated from The world, and became an unacceptable mediator in the peace negotiations that it was sponsoring between the Palestinians and the occupying power, stressing the Arab nation’s firm position in preserving the legal status of the occupied Arab city of Jerusalem, and the absolute right of the State of Palestine to sovereignty over its entire territory occupied in 1967 AD.
