The Chinese President meets with the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council

Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Beijing on Thursday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel, according to what was reported by China’s official Xinhua news agency.

The official Chinese agency said, “Chinese President Xi Jinping met with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Beijing on Thursday.”
The two European leaders went to the Chinese capital to attend a summit between the European Union and China.
The summit will focus in particular on the trade imbalance between the two partners, which has widened in recent years.
The President of the Commission stressed that restoring balance to exchanges is also in China’s interest, stressing that Beijing must now “carefully study” the options presented.
Von der Leyen pointed out that the deficit in the European trade balance with China has doubled within two years, reaching a record number of 390 billion euros in 2022.
She stressed that the European-Chinese summit is a “summit of options” and that “many positive options can be identified to improve the situation.”
