The Shards Brings Bret Easton Ellis to FX and Hulu

Based on the author’s semi-autobiographical horror novel, The Shards debuts Wednesday on FX at 9 p.m. and streams on Hulu. Set in 1981, the series follows a fictionalized 17-year-old version of Ellis—played by Igby Rigney—as he attends L.A.’s elite Buckley prep school. His privileged adolescent life is upended by a mysterious new student named Robert Mallory, played by Homer Gere, whose arrival unsettlingly overlaps with a string of murders committed by a local serial killer known as “The Trawler.”

The production leans into tongue-in-cheek casting by pairing Homer Gere (son of Richard Gere and Carey Lowell) with Kaia Gerber (daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber). According to cast members on the red carpet at the New York City premiere, the two had never met before working on the show. Owen Painter, who stars as Matt Kellner, noted that the creative team worked hard to stay faithful to the source material. With the book, we did our best to match the quality of that writing, the star noted.

FX has slated a nine-episode schedule for the first season, kicking off with a two-episode premiere on August 5, 2026. Subsequent episodes roll out weekly through September, carrying titles such as Don’t You Want Me, Help Me! Rhonda!, and Murder on the Dancefloor.

More than three years after its last episode aired, Ted Lasso returns to Apple TV on Wednesday for its fourth season. Jason Sudeikis is back as the titular optimistic coach, but his professional landscape has shifted. After a stint back in the United States, Ted returns to the United Kingdom to manage AFC Richmond’s first-ever women’s squad, the Lady Greyhounds.

The shift reunites him with familiar faces in the front office, including Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), alongside returning cast members Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift.
