Drones struck near Dubai International Airport, injuring four people, while separate attacks targeted three ships in or near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, as Iran continues a campaign disrupting oil markets and maritime traffic.

Dubai Airport Drone Attacks

Two drones fell in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport, resulting in minor injuries to two Ghanaian nationals and one Bangladeshi national, and moderate injuries to one Indian national, according to the Dubai Media Office. Air traffic is operating normally.

An Indian worker at a cargo terminal opposite Terminal 2 reported seeing a drone flying at low altitude before crashing into a building at the airport terminal. The worker, who requested anonymity, said there was no initial loud blast, but a subsequent drone crash produced a loud explosion.

Ships Hit in the Strait of Hormuz

A container ship and a bulk carrier were hit off the coast of the UAE, one off Dubai and the other off Ras Al Khaimah, by unknown projectiles, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). A third ship was hit by a projectile off Oman, in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire that was later extinguished.

Saudi Arabia intercepted drones targeting the Shaybah field, crucial to its oil production, while explosions were reported in Qatar. Saudi Arabia also stated it intercepted seven ballistic missiles targeting its eastern region and Prince Sultan Air Base, where an American service member was fatally wounded on March 1.

Iran appears to be attempting to disrupt major Gulf refineries and tighten its control over the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to inflict economic damage. Recent targets include Saudi Aramco’s Ras Tanura facility and the UAE’s Ruwais refinery.

Iranian attacks have already led QatarEnergy to halt production and declare force majeure, with similar declarations from energy producers in Kuwait, signaling potential export disruptions.
