A Mount Maunganui woman is facing charges after allegedly crashing into other vehicles while driving nearly five times over the legal alcohol limit on Friday.
Drink Driving Charges in Mount Maunganui
The 56-year-old woman has been charged with drink driving and careless driving following an incident at 11:30 a.m., according to police.
Police responded to a report of a vehicle swerving over the road and hitting a pedestrian island at the corner of Marine Parade and Tweed Rd. A short time later, the vehicle reportedly rear-ended another vehicle at the traffic lights at the intersection of Oceanbeach Rd and Golf Rd.
The driver allegedly recorded a breath alcohol reading nearly five times the legal limit and has been suspended from driving for 28 days.
